Coleophora fuscicornis v nigricana

Start

1 & 2 The Pea Moth Cydia nigricana larvae also feed on smooth tare seeds in a very similar way to C. fuscicornis at about the same time of year. Frass is mostly heaped at the bottom of the pod, but some is ejected through a hole half way up. This hole is often surrounded by strands of silk and nearby pods can become randomly attached, but not in the purposeful fuscicornis way where one end of a pod is firmly anchored to another.
3 C. nigricana larva compared to that of fuscicornis (4). It is roughly similar, though speckled with pale brown spots, and the thoratic segments are plain in comparison.
5 Adult Cydia nigricana.
