Adults are on the wing from mid-May to mid-June, peaking in late May. They are easily caught by sweeping a net through clumps of smooth tare or, where straggly, through surrounding grasses.

Choose a warm, sunny and still day: in cool, cloudy conditions adults tend to roost low down and are harder to catch. A quick check with a hand lens will reveal the orange scales bordering the compound eyes.
